Trainer Hugo Palmer won the first classic race of his training career when his Covert Love came home well to win Saturday's G1 Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

Ridden by Pat Smullen, Covert Love tracked the leader and seized the lead nearing the finish line, winning by 1 3/4 lengths over Jack Naylor and favored Curvy.

“I'm terrified I'll wake up still in my bed in Newmarket,” Palmer said, as quoted by the Racing Post. “I couldn't be more excited, for once I am completely lost for words. It's amazing. I think I'll be shaking for a little while yet.”
