Last month, Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody said he would be up for a clash with the world's other top-rated Thoroughbred, Frankel, if things worked out in Britain this summer. This week, Frankel's trainer Henry Cecil said he'd be game as well. But since Cecil is mostly looking to stretch out Frankel beyond a mile this year, and Black Caviar is unlikely to go beyond eight furlongs, the most likely candidate for a matchup might be the one-mile Sussex Stakes at Goodwood August 1.
“If the Sussex Stakes was the right race for Frankel, it would be lovely to see the two of them race,” said Cecil. “As I said, I've got to try and do the best for the horse, whatever that might be. I'd love to take her on, as I'm sure she wants to take me on. It would be lovely if that day comes, we'll just have to see.”
Cecil is targeting a May return to the races for Frankel, while Black Caviar is likely to have one more race in Australia before shipping overseas to run at Royal Ascot.
