Caracortado won a stretch duel with The Usual Q.T. to take the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Turf at Santa Anita Park Saturday.
Presious Passion sprinted away from the field as usual and opened up a six-length lead on the backstretch, but he faded turning for home as Caracortado and The Usual Q.T. raced for the wire well clear of their rivals. Caracortado prevailed by three quarters of a length in 1:46.75 for the 1 1/8 mile race. Soul Candy finished two lengths back in third.
Caracortado is owned by Blahut Racing or Lo Hi Racing and was bred in California by his trainer, Mike Machowsky. The four-year-old gelding is a son of Cat Dreams out of the Maria's Mon mare, Mons Venus. He was ridden by Joe Talamo.
