Calder Casino and Race Course released its stakes schedule through July 5, according to the Blood-Horse.
Racing for the first time January through March, Calder has a light stakes schedule through the spring, ostensibly to avoid competing with the well-established stakes calendar at nearby Gulfstream Park.
The $250,000 Calder Derby is scheduled for April 5 and the $100,000 Calder Oaks is featured the following weekend. The Miami Gardens, Fla., racetrack will host its first graded race of the year on April 19 with the Grade 3 Miami Mile Handicap. The current stakes schedule goes through the annual “Summit of Speed” program on July 5, highlighted by four graded sprint stakes.
