Bribon took the lead mid-stretch and held off all challengers to win the Grade 3, $100,000 Bold Ruler Handicap at Belmont Saturday.
With Johnny Velazquez on board, Bribon circled the field and surged clear to win by two lengths in the seven furlong race. The winning time was 1:22.36.
Owned by Derrick Smith and trained by Todd Pletcher, Bribon is a seven-year-old son of the Irish Stallion, Mark of Esteem out of the Arazi mare, Rowat Arazi. Bribon was bred in France.
Jack on the Rocks set the pace with a first quarter of 23.13. Bribon sat in sixth in the eight-horse field until the far turn, when he picked off horses, circled the field and took the lead mid-stretch. Jersey Town chased but Bribon pulled away before the wire. Jersey Town held second while Half Metal Jacket closed late to get third.
The Bold Ruler was Bribon's second win of the year out of five graded stakes appearances.
