Mark Devereaux and Scott Gross' Big Bane Theory came off the pace with jockey Joe Talamo to score his first stakes win in the Grade 2, $200,000 City of Hope Mile at Santa Anita Park on Saturday.
Mr. Commons came in for second; Avanzare was third. Final time for the turf mile was 1:32.38.
Now a four-time winner in 11 starts, the Carla Gaines trainee came into this race off of a second-place performance on the Del Mar Polytrack surface on August 30. Before that, he found himself fourth behind Silentio in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap last November.
Bred in California by his owners, Big Bane Theory is a 5-year-old son of WinStar Farm's Artie Schiller and out of the Alysheba mare Shebane.
