Amazombie came with a late charge to overtake odds-on favorite Cost Of Freedom and win the $200,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita Park Saturday.
Cost Of Freedom set blistering fractions on the front end (20.80, 42.72 and 54.61) and could not hold off Amazombie or Apriority, who nipped the frontrunner to take second. The final time for six furlongs was 1:07.28.
Amazombie is owned by Sanford Or Spawr and was bred in California by Gregg Anderson. Trained by Bill Spawr, he's a five-old-year old gelding by Northern Afleet out of the In Excess mare, Wilshe Amaze. He was ridden by Mike Smith.
