Four-year-old filly Always A Princess was retired from racing Sunday following an injury in deep stretch during the Santa Margarita Invitational Stakes at Santa Anita Saturday.
Jim Barnes, assistant to trainer Bob Baffert, said Always A Princess was “moving comfortably” Sunday and was scheduled to undergo surgery on her left front ankle. She took a bad step and fell while battling odds-on favorite Switch in the Santa Margarita.
Always A Princess retires from racing with five wins in 10 starts and earnings of more than $516,000.
