WinStar Farm's StableMates program will begin the 2013 edition of its popular Fantasy Derby game for fans on February 2. The game, which is free to enter, allows players to pick three horses in pre-determined groups for a stable totalling 12 horses. Selections are locked in after the contest closure at noon on February 2, and earnings in all North American races for participating horses are tabulated through April 20. The game was originally designed to help fans follow the system of Derby prep races on the road to the first Saturday in May.
“We've had an extremely positive response to the contest in the past few years, so we decided to have it again,” said Leanna Packard, StableMates Coordinator and Bloodstock Assistant for WinStar. “We felt it was a good way to give back to the community and make the Derby fun for all walks of life, whether that be … the novice who wants to just go through and pick names, or the handicapper who wants to find the longshots.”
The ten contestants whose stables have the highest earnings will receive prizes, ranging from WinStar merchandise to the first prize–two box seats to the 2013 Derby, VIP tour of the farm, StableMates membership, and WinStar gift basket.
