A tote error last week at Del Mar was caused by an employee at totalisator company Sportech entering the wrong payoffs, according to the California Horse Racing Board.
In response, the CHRB says Sportech has agreed to install monitors at each California racetrack so placing judges and stewards can see the initial prices before they go official. A new Sportech policy also requires employees to check with their supervisors in certain situations. In last week's race, the two halves of an entry finished first and second, prompting a less common payout scenario.
