Kentucky Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer expects a sports gambling bill to be introduced during the next legislative session early in 2019.
Thayer laid out the likely plans during Thursday's symposium on sports betting at Keeneland. He said a sports betting bill would need to include guaranteed subsidies for the racing and breeding industries, horsemen specifically.
Thayer noted it would likely be difficult to get authorization for sports wagering on mobile phones in Kentucky due to conservative opposition, and he said he would not get behind a bill that doesn't include support for the racing industry.
