SHOULD NYRA GO TO SHORTENED SEASON, INCREASED PURSES?

Jeff Gural, owner of two upstate NY harness tracks and partner of SL Green, told Paul Post of The Saratogian that NYRA should look to its neighbor to the South when evaluating the road ahead. Quite simply, fewer dates and larger purses.

“Every other sport has an opening day and an end — the Super Bowl or World Series,” said Gural. “In horse racing, it just goes on. There's too much.”

Do you agree? Should racing shorten its season to allow for quality over quantity? Or do you believe more racing brings fans more opportunity to enjoy the sport?
