Clockers' Corner, Santa Anita's popular breakfast destination, will re-open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 1 in conjunction with the re-opening of the track's inner dirt oval for training. Santa Anita's stable area, which has been closed for routine maintenance since mid-July, will begin accepting horses the day before, on Friday, Aug. 31 and the main track will re-open on Sunday, Sept. 2—well in advance of the track's 2018 Autumn Meet opener on Friday, Sept. 28.
Located at the top of the stretch, Clockers' Corner, which is accessible via Gate 8 off of Baldwin Ave., will once again be open from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., seven days a week. Along with coffee, tea and juices, fans and horsemen can purchase a wide array of fresh breakfast items, as well as the Daily Racing Form, each morning.
In addition to the stable area, Santa Anita's main track has also undergone routine maintenance over the summer, as soil has been removed, applied and gradients have been addressed and verified.
Santa Anita's Bandera Bermuda turf course has also been reinvigorated through a variety of means, with a four-acre area, from the downhill portion into the Club House turn, completely re-sodded with brand new turf grown in La Quinta, CA.
With the opening day Grade III Eddie D. Stakes serving as the first graded stakes event of the season, Santa Anita will present four Grade I races the following day, Sept. 29 and one Grade I on Sunday, Sept. 30, the $300,000 Zenyatta Stakes, as horsemen prepare for the Breeders' Cup World Championships Nov. 2 & 3 at Churchill Downs.
Two additional “Win and You're In” stakes, the Grade I Santa Anita Sprint Championship and the $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes, will be run on the second Saturday of the meet, Oct. 6.
First post time on opening day, Sept. 28, will be at 1 p.m. There will be a special early first post time of 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 29, Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3. First post time on all other weekend days will be at 12:30 p.m. For more information on Santa Anita's 2018 Autumn Meet, including the Autumn Meet Stakes Schedule, please visit www.santaanita.com or call (626) 574-RACE.
