After California Sen. Dianne Feinstein called for a suspension of horse racing at Santa Anita and the California Horse Racing Board scheduled a meeting to discuss reallocation of Santa Anita dates, management with The Stronach Group say they plan to continue on this weekend as scheduled.
Tim Ritvo, Stronach Group chief operating officer, told The Blood-Horse Wednesday that the action item on the CHRB's agenda for its April 12 meeting was not requested by the company. Further, Ritvo said speculation, including a tweet from New York Times writer Joe Drape, that The Stronach Group would ask CHRB to shift Santa Anita's dates to Golden Gate Fields were “totally false.”
Following the breakdown of Arms Runner on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita last weekend, horsemen were notified that races scheduled for the downhill course on Thursday and Friday had been moved to the dirt.
