According to Daily Racing Form, rider C.J. McMahon has been suspended 30 days by stewards at Indiana Grand after a drug test came back with levels of methamphetamine and THC.

McMahon was tested at Indiana Grand on Sept. 26. His suspension began Oct. 10 and will run through Nov. 8.

As a result of the test, McMahon has been taken off mounts at Keeneland this week. Agent Joe Santos said the rider will resume riding at Churchill Downs in November.

Who wud want him on a horse till he goes to rehab and prove he can stay clean. His hands may contaminate a horses drug test. Best of luck but for yourself and racing you must do the drill. Racing needs to require these situations go thru rehab.

The recent tragedies have shown that even a clean and sober jockey is at risk once he sets foot on the track. For that reason the racing industry has to impose strict enough enforcement and penalties to ensure the safety of all involved. Thirty days for methamphetamine and THC is awfully light. Having said that; Good luck, C.J. I hope you can turn things around in your life and career.

30 days for meth? Wow. What has this world come to? Should be 1 year minimum. Right back in the saddle for Churchill. A shame.

      this isn’t a prison sentence, it’s a work suspension

CJ is a good persun and should be allowed to ride this weekend. Why the shade against brown people?

Hopefully he can get some help but I surely wouldn’t want someone abusing drugs on my animal.

these young riders just cant Friggin learn? they believe that whenever they were to be found with drugs in their system, they will still be respected by the racing World.. that is everyone who are against illegal stupid? do you think that when you blemish yourself, you can ever erase that record? think again,. when you go into a riding slump.. the people will say things like he is a drug taker what do you expect,. and when you were to win a race and defeat top Horses, and owners they wont appreciate you.. they will say thats the drug taking rider.. so you are simply an idiot, not sorry for anyone that take drugs and destroy their career,. now you are one of them!

Riding race horses is a stressful, demanding vocation and I wish all the best to every jockey. Having said that, if there was a flash substance abuse test of every rider engaged in North America today, the majority would come back dirty for something. The majority of citizens as a whole would be hard pressed to fail a snap drug test. You name the cause, self-medication for an injury, a short term breach of good judgement, flat out addiction, whatever. The truth be told, ANY licencee, Jockey, Trainer, Owner, Concession Worker, whomever, who has their case adjudicated by track stewards rather than local, state or federal authorities is very lucky. If the Indiana authorities claimed jurisdiction over C.J. McMahon’s situation, they would try for some sort of jail sentence, that’s a mortal lock.
