The Thoroughbred Daily News reported Wednesday that Fort Erie Racetrack is up for sale, though the track's status is not expected to have an effect on this year's dates. The price tag is $7.2 million for a 144-acre parcel including the track and barn area.

One of the interested parties is the Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium, which has been leasing the facility. The group had tried to purchase the property in the past without success, but in the past the only available deal would have required the FELRC to spend more for a 338-acre parcel.

Any purchaser of the property would be required to accept FELRC's renewable five-year lease.
