Representatives of Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course have asked the Illinois Racing Board to approve 2016 racing schedules that would reduce the number of live racing dates.
According to a report in the Daily Racing Form, Arlington has requested 74 live racing days that would run from early May until late September. Races would be held four days a week in July and August, and three days a week in the other months.
Hawthorne has requested 65 racing dates in March, April, and October through the end of the year. They would race only on Fridays and Saturdays in March, and mostly run three days a week in the other months. The track would not run in February; instead it would begin the season on March 7.
The Illinois Racing Board has scheduled a dates hearing for Sept. 29 to consider the requests.
