Arlington Park officials have announced that they are adding seven overnight stakes races – each worth $65,000 – to the remaining schedule this season.
According to the Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, the overnight stakes will be run Sept. 2, 4, 9, 16, and 23. There will be two scheduled for each of the last two Saturdays of the meet.
Arlington also has begun a new incentive program, which pays all starters a percentage, based on the total purse. As a result, all horses that finish sixth through last will receive a payment equivalent to one percent of the purse.
The additional stakes races and new incentive program are a result of a “better than anticipated” meet, according to the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association.
