Ratings for the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Classic, which aired from 8-9 p.m. on NBC, registered a 1.4 rating, down 40 percent from last year's 2.2.
According to a report in the Blood-Horse, the Classic, which had a post time of 8:35 p.m. EDT, faced strong competition from the Florida State – Miami college football game on ABC. Another factor may also have been a reported contract dispute between Dish Network and NBC, which may have prevented some viewers from receiving the telecast.
National ratings for the entire two-day Breeders' Cup event will be released later this week.
