Saturday was the first day restricted signals by HBPAs across the country kept Suffolk Downs from simulcasting at top racetracks around the country including the Florida and New York circuits. Predictably, the restrictions drove many customers away from the Massachusetts track and Suffolk's lose appears to have become Rockingham and other simulcast facilities' gain.
Of course, these loses will also bring an even more reduced purse structure for the 2011 meet. It may turn out that the NEHBPA has shot itself in the foot by hurting the financial footing of the only racetrack in Massachusetts.
