Teresa Genaro at Brooklyn Backstretch writes that last night via Twitter and Facebook she became aware that the New York State Racing and Wagering Board's Equine Breakdown, Death, Injury and Incident database listed Giant Ryan as euthanized. When she checked the database, Genaro found the date of death listed for Giant Ryan was June 9, the day he was injured in the True North and a day before Daily Racing Form reported he had safely arrived at New Bolton and was awaiting surgery. Genaro contacted the SRWB about the issue and it was immediately removed from the records.
Giant Ryan was not the only horse mistakenly listed as euthanized. Giant Surprise, a horse trained by Todd Pletcher, was injured at Saratoga in 2011 but was also listed as euthanized at the time of injury. Giant Surprise is currently standing at stud at Vinery New York.
