Amplify, a new group focused on fan development, will be offering free enhanced tours of the Saratoga backstretch next week.
Together with the New York Racing Association, the group will host tours of the track July 31, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. The experience will move beyond the daily Saratoga tram tour, offering participants to speak with a trainer, visit the saddling paddock and attend the races with the guidance of an enthusiastic Amplify guide.
The group hopes to attract youth and young adults who may be new to racing or interested in horses but unfamiliar with this particular equine industry.
Amplify launched officially earlier this month as a grassroots effort driven by Annise Montplaisir, 23-year-old trainee in Godolphin Flying Start, and Madison Scott, a 25-year-old team member at Solis/Litt Bloodstock. Moving forward, the group will provide events, shared experiences, and mentoring for young people interested in horse racing.
“Initially, we seek to cultivate racing fans and participants by lowering barriers to entry through events, outreach, and mentoring,” said Montplaisir at the time of the organization's launch. “We will follow up with those we engage with and provide easy access to racing. Our goal is to establish credibility and gain momentum toward the next phase, which is to reach out to existing groups and work to amplify our collective message.
“These are big goals,” she added, “but there is no better time to start than now. We need young people to ensure the future of racing. The sport's existence in California and in America is under threat, but we realize this is an opportunity.”
Recommended ages for the tour are 12 to 21, with a chaperone required for those 15 and under. To sign up, please [email protected]. Each enhanced tour can accommodate six people.
