Laffit Pincay III, shown with jockey Mike Smith, will host NBC's weekend coverage

With the “Run for the Roses” one month away, NBC Sports Group continues its coverage this weekend as horses aim to qualify for the Kentucky Derby. NBCSN presents live horse racing this Saturday, April 7, at 5:30 p.m. ET, with coverage of the Wood Memorial, Blue Grass Stakes, and Santa Anita Derby. The winner of each race receives 100 points, enough to guarantee a spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby, Saturday, May 5 on NBC.

Bolt d'Oro, named for 8-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, will headline the field in this year's Santa Anita Derby. He will be challenged by Justify, a Bob Baffert-trained horse who has won each of his first two career starts (both at Santa Anita).

The field for the Blue Grass Stakes, a prestigious race for top 3-year-olds at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, is led by Quip, who won the Tampa Bay Derby last month as a 19-1 longshot, as well as Good Magic and Free Drop Billy.

Enticed, who has already won two races on the “Road to the Kentucky Derby,” including the Gotham Stakes on March 10, is among the standouts expected to run in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, N.Y.

Laffit Pincay III hosts Saturday's telecast from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., joined by Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey, who has won each Triple Crown race twice; veteran horse racing analyst Randy Moss, analyst/handicapper Eddie Olczyk; and reporter Donna Brothers. NBC Sports race caller Larry Collmus will call the Wood Memorial from Aqueduct.

Coverage will be streamed live on NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app via “TV Everywhere,” giving consumers additional value for their subscription service, and making high quality content available to MVPD customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms. Powered by Playmaker Media, the NBC Sports app is available on Apple iOS, Android and select Samsung devices, as well as on Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Win10, and Xbox.
