The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame's newest exhibition, Fabulous and Fast: The Female Horses of the Hall of Fame, is now open in the Museum's Contemporary Racing Gallery. This spotlight on the 66 Hall of Fame fillies and mares features photographs, art, artifacts, and multimedia from the Museum Collection. Race footage, Hall of Fame induction ceremony highlights and a comprehensive chart detailing their lineage and accomplishments provides additional insight into their Hall of Fame careers. The exhibition is open through Dec. 31.
Fabulous and Fast is a companion exhibit to the Museum's upcoming Women in Racing special exhibition, scheduled to open to the public on July 20 in the McBean Gallery. Museum visitors can also tour the nearby Racing Day Gallery for a special Rachel Alexandra photo opportunity, courtesy of Stonestreet Stables.
Some of the items featured in the Fabulous and Fast exhibition include:
- Beldame's 1904 Saratoga Cup trophy
- Shuvee's Jockey Club Gold Cup trophies from 1970, 1971
- Historic racing programs from record-breaking wins, including Cicada's 1962 Beldame Stakes (broke Kelso's record time for 9 furlongs at Aqueduct)
- Richard Stone Reeves portraits of 1970s champions Shuvee, Susan's Girl, and Ruffian
