After video review, Los Alamitos stewards determined that two jockeys violated adjusted whip usage rules in California on July 2, the day the new rules went into effect.

According to The Blood-Horse, stewards fined Edwin Maldonado $200 for his first violation of the rule that says jockeys can't use the crop more than three times in succession without giving their horse a chance to respond. Maldonado was fined for his winning ride aboard Domingo Cat in the fifth race at Los Alamitos Thursday.

Felipe Valdez was also fined $200 by stewards for a ride aboard third-place finisher Sturdy One in Thursday's eighth race.
