Kling: Purse levels at Santa Anita are likely to be cut before the meet is concluded

Nick Kling at The Troy Record believes that Santa Anita may need to cut purse levels before the end of the Santa Anita meet due to some tough numbers over the first 11 days of live racing. And he takes umbrage with George Haines' take that “Maybe the top point-one percent of the handicapping world has (takeout) in their equation.”

However, Kling is fair enough to admit there are other factors going to create an all-source handle decline of 13.4 percent and on-track attendance down 9 percent. “Unfortunately, there are so many variables involved in this Santa Anita meet versus last year we may never know how each contributed.”
