The Illinois Racing Board is set to meet  on Wednesday regarding the disqualification of Secret Gesture in the G1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park last month.

Secret Gesture won the race, but was disqualified and placed third for interference. Qatar Racing and Newsells Park Stud, which own the mare, along with trainer Ralph Beckett, lodged an appeal and hope to have Secret Gesture reinstated as the winner of the race.

According to a report in the Racing Post, former jockey Steve Cauthen will appear as an expert witness for Qatar Racing and Newsells Park Stud during a directors' review conference. Jockey Jamie Spencer, the rider of Secret Gesture, along with  Bernie Hettel, former chief steward in Kentucky, will also testify for the Secret Gesture team.

The hearing is expected to last two days; the appeal board has up to 30 days to announce its decision.

Am I the only one who is curious about the fee that SC will receive?

      It’s America, baby!

    • An offence occurred – break out the long pants and suck it up. Same applies to the Leger. And ought to apply to the Irish Champion St. too. “Men are not hanged for stealing horses, but that horses shall not be stolen” – Marquis of Halifax 1633-1695.

Cauthen once fell off a horse I bet, at the start of the race, at Aqueduct. Can I get a refund?

Steve Cauthen has major credibility. Irad Ortiz was guilty of overacting, and his actions/demeanor really don’t support his claims. I hope the racing board overturns the DQ.

All decisions of the Stewards are final. Except when they are not.
New York would never be in this situation.
Grass race riding has become an event where the jockeys from the outside and inside start forming a V to the middle of the pack. And crash.

Becomes a salad the Stews can’t possibly sort out. And leave it standing as is.
