A fire wiped out part of the Dogwood Stable barn at the Aiken Training Track in South Carolina on Saturday, according to Dogwood Stable vice president and communications director Jack Sadler. All 21 horses stabled in the barn at the time were evacuated safely, and are being moved to alternate stabling nearby.
“Arrangements for stalls are being made as we speak,” Sadler said Saturday afternoon. “There was an immediate outpouring in Aiken, people saying, 'Please let us know what we can do to help with the horses and the stall situation.'”
Observers on the ground said that one worker in the barn was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Photos posted to Twitter of the damaged barn show part of the building leveled.
Sadler, who was in Saratoga at the time of the blaze, said that the stable's training programs will not be affected.
