First we had the hit show Jockeys on the Animal Planet. Then it was announced that Diane Lane and John Malkovich would team up for the upcoming movie version of the Secretariat story. And now HBO has greenlighted a pilot episode of a show called Luck, described as a provocative look at the world of horse racing and gambling told through a diverse group of characters surround a racetrack.

And this isn't a rookie team by any means putting together this new drama series. Created by David Milch (Deadwood) and directed by the Oscar-nominated Michael Mann (Ali, The Insider) this project certainly has a strong chance of success. Here's to the hope that Luck and other similar projects help spur greater interest in this beautiful sport.
