Following a successful Spring Meet that culminated with Saturday's Summit of Speed program, the Summer Meet at Gulfstream Park will get under way Sunday with an 11-race program with a first-race post time set for 1:15 p.m.
The 56-day Summer Meet will offer a stakes schedule with purses totaling $2.675 million, headlined by the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes program.
The FSS series for 2-year-olds will be kicked off Aug. 4 by the $100,000 Dr. Fager and $100,000 Desert Vixen, both run at six furlongs. The $200,000 Affirmed and the $200,000 Susan's Girl, both run at seven furlongs, will be run Sept. 1, followed on Sept. 29 by the 1 1/16-mile series finals in the $400,000 In Reality and the $400,000 My Dear Girl. The Sept. 29program will offer eight stakes worth $1.325 million.
The beginning of the Summer Meet will celebrated Wednesday with a special 12-race Fourth of July program. The Fourth of July will be celebrated all day and evening at Gulfstream Park during Freedom Fest, which will include lunch and dinner buffets in Ten Palms and parties in the Walking Ring and Pegasus Park (6-9 p.m.), as well as a 9 p.m. fireworks show.
Opening week of the Summer Meet will also offer a pair of one-mile stakes for 3-year-olds on turf Saturday, July 7 – the $100,000 Not Surprising and the $100,000 Martha Washington for fillies.
The Summer Meet will continue through Sept. 30. Racing will be conducted on a Thursday–Sunday scheduled most weeks with additional cards slated for Wednesday, Aug. 22 and Monday, Sept. 3, as well as Wednesday, July 4. Twilight racing cards (2:15 p.m. first-race post time) are scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays through the end of the meet.
