Gulfstream Park has been home of some of the best Thoroughbred racing in Florida. For many years, officials with the racetrack have been trying to build on that success by planning the addition of a shopping center and office complex.

While retail sales continue to grow, according to the Miami Herald, revenue still remains “soft”, with the shopping area still about 20 percent empty. As a result, Gulfstream officials have revamped their plans, and now are planning to add Pegasus Park – a family entertainment destination that could have water slides and Ferris wheels.

At the center of Pegasus Park will be Pegasus himself – a giant statue 11 stories tall. The winged giant is made of bronze and steel, and will be displayed trampling an equally massive dragon at its feet. Stretching 220 feet long and shipped in 60 packing containers from China, the statue will cost $30 million, according to the Herald.
