Economic Indicators for February Show Across-the-Board Declines

There were across the board declines during the month of February in the racing economic indicators. As compared with February 2013, all three categories-wagering, attendance, and race dates fell.

Wagering in the U.S. was down 4.09% in 2014 as compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date figures were also down, 2.18%.

Purses for February 2014 fell 5.70% as compared with 2013, while year-to-date they decreased 2.17%.

The number of race days decreased this year, down 5.07%, compared to February 2013. Year-to-date, race days dropped 0.34%.
