***Editor's Note: Equibase normally releases the Thoroughbred Racing Economic Indicators on a quarterly basis. However, because of the new IRS regulations on withholding from winnings that began in late September, Equibase sent the November figures.
Racing showed an increase in wagering and purses during the month of November, as compared with November 2016, according to the racing economic indicators released by Thursday by Equibase. Year-to-date figures were similar for wagering; however, purses, racing days, etc., declined compared to 2016.
Wagering in the U.S. was up 6.39% in 2017 as compared with the same month last year. Year-to-date figures were also up, 1.43%.
Purses for November 2017 rose 0.41% as compared with November 2016; year-to-date figures declined however, 0.73%.
The number of race days declined this year, down 3.01%, compared to November 2016. Year-to-date, race days decreased, 2.12%.
