Development at Newmarket opposed by racing interests

A housing development proposed by Lord Derby, whose family famously gave the Kentucky Derby its name, has met much opposition from racing interests in the Newmarket area ranging from the Jockey Club to Tattersalls and commentators on the sport. Those opposed to the development have warned that increased traffic congestion caused by an additional 1,200 homes will result in racing businesses abandoning the town.
