Colonial Downs has begun construction on a new off-track betting center in Richmond, Va., and expects the facility to open in June of next year, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Rosie's Gaming Emporium will take over a space formerly occupied by K-Mart and is expected to bring in 150 to 200 jobs.

The new facility will include a simulcast betting area, along with 700 historical horse racing machines.

Revolutionary Racing, the new owners of Colonial Downs, did not ask the city for tax breaks for the new facility. Instead, Richmond City Councilman Michael Jones told the paper the company committed $500,000 to an elementary school located near the new site.
