The total handle at Santa Anita Park, Golden Gate Fields, Sacramento and Los Alamitos is up significantly in the first three months of 2018, according to drf.com. A total of $764 million has gone through the four tracks, an increase of 11.85 percent over the same period in 2017.
Last year's wet weather likely played a role, as the dry Thoroughbred tracks resulted in a higher average number of horses per race in 2018.
Thoroughbred races handled a total of $682.2 million, a gain of 12.6 percent.
