Appleby Tapped to Take over Al Zarooni’s Stable

Charlie Appleby, the former assistant trainer to Mahmood al Zarooni, is being lined up to take over the training duties at Moulton Paddocks, it was reported in the Racing Post.

According to the Post, Appleby has enrolled in a racehorse management course at the British Racing School. The program is one of three that must be completed before he can apply for a training license.

Appleby has been with Godolphin since 1999, at first working for trainer David Loder. He then worked as a senior head groom for Saeed bin Suroor before joining Al Zarooni.

    As an assistant to al Zarooni wouldn’t Mr. Appleby have some knowledge of the steroid use that caused the suspension of his former boss?
