Early Saturday morning, a fire broke out in one of the barns at the Mount Hope Training Center in Orange County, New York. According to the New York Post, the flames killed 28 Standardbred racehorses.
A groom relayed that the horses had just returned from racing at Pocono Downs.
“The guy got up to feed them,” said the groom. “He saw half the barn on fire. He came back and shouted, 'Fire! fire!' and everybody was running to help to save the horses.”
Unfortunately, the blaze spread quickly, and none of the horses in the barn were able to be saved. No humans were injured in the fire.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the trainers.
