In an effort to increase the field sizes for this year's meeting at Timonium, the Maryland State Fair and Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association are offering a total of $20,000 in trainer bonuses, according to racingbiz.com.
The meet's top-earning trainer will earn a $5,000 bonus, while additional bonuses will be awarded based on a points system. A first-place finish earns the trainer 10 points, a second five points, and a third three points, while each additional starter earns a single point. The top point-earning trainer earns a $5,000 bonus, second earns a $4,000 bonus, and the next three earn $2,000 apiece.
This year's meeting will run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 5, with seven racing days.
Last year, entries at Timonium averaged 6.9 horses per race.
