On Friday, jockey Pat Valenzuela was suspended  indefinitely by the California Horse Racing Board for failing to appear at a hearing before Santa Anita stewards alleging that he had failed to fulfill riding agreements.

According to the Blood-Horse, the 51-year-old journeyman took off his two mounts on Jan. 24 and sent a message his agent the next day saying, “I'm sorry Tom, but I'm no longer riding.”

A 13-time leading rider in Southern California, Valenzuela had been issued a conditional license that allowed the CHRB to test for drugs and alcohol at the discretion of officials.
