23 years ago, Winchell Thoroughbreds enjoyed success at racing's highest level with Grade 1 runners such as Tight Spot, Sea Cadet, and Olympio. This year, they are doing similarly well, as homebred sire Tapit has sired some of the leading runners in 2014, including their own Kentucky Oaks winner Untapable.
Untapable will start in Sunday's Grade 1 Haskell Invitational as the 2-1 morning-line favorite against the boys. The filly has won four straight stakes races, her last being the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes on June 28.
Aside from Untapable, Winchell Thoroughbreds also campaign Tapiture, a multiple graded stakes-winning sophomore headed next towards the West Virginia Derby. Tapit has sired a plethora of stakes winners this year, including Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist, who runs in the Jim Dandy Stakes on Saturday at Saratoga.
