During her testimony at an Ontario Racing Commission panel hearing on Woodbine track employee Robert Bertrand, jockey Chantal Sutherland-Kruse admitted that she attempted to falsify a breathalyzer test in October 2012, the Toronto Star reports.

Sutherland-Kruse said she used an asthma inhaler before taking the test, but was still over the legal limit and was suspended five days.

Bertrand, who has been clerk of scales for the last two decades, is accused of neglecting to report jockeys' failed breathalyzer tests on race days. He is also accused of receiving thousands of dollars in gifts from riders.

Sutherland-Kruse, Emma-Jayne Wilson and Patrick Husbands all testified that Bertrand runs a “tight ship” and plays by the rules.

I remember when Kent Desormeaux got Charlie fired/demoted as clerk of scales for not passing his 126 lbs as 118 or was it for a failed breathalyzer, I can’t remember

I believe that was the whole scales game.

It is interesting that a person who has admitted to “attempting to falsify a breathalyzer” (which is tantamount to attempted lying and cheating) is being used as a character witness for the clerk of scales.
Couldn’t the defense team find someone else?!
I am not a rocket scientist – but even I would question the veracity of this person’s testimony.
