The Jockey Club announced today that Chloe Bellerive has been selected to receive The Jockey Club Scholarship and Abel Zander has been selected to receive The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship.

The Jockey Club Scholarship provides $15,000 ($7,500 per semester) to a student who is pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher at any university and has demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the Thoroughbred industry.

The Jockey Club Jack Goodman Scholarship awards $6,000 ($3,000 per semester) annually to a student at the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program (RTIP) and is based on academic achievement, a proposed career path in the Thoroughbred racing industry, and previous industry involvement. Goodman was a longtime member of The Jockey Club and one of three founders of the RTIP.

Bellerive is a rising senior at the University of Kentucky and is majoring in equine science and management on the pre-veterinary track. She has been involved with the Retired Racehorse Project and the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) and has served as a T.I.P. Youth Ambassador. She works at Equine Medical Associates as a veterinary and laboratory technician and aspires to become an equine surgeon.

Abel Zander

Zander will be a senior in the RTIP this fall. In addition to completing his RTIP degree, he is majoring in Arabic. Zander is interested in understanding all aspects of the industry from regulations to business to fan development. He is also skilled in website management and developed the websites for the RTIP and the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

“The Jockey Club believes in supporting the next generation of leaders in the Thoroughbred industry, and we are pleased to assist Chloe and Abel as they pursue their goals in equine medicine and the racing industry,” said Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club.
