On Friday investigators from New Hampshire's Major Crime Unit were investigating the discovery of what appears to be a human skull in a historic horse cemetery under Interstate 93 in Littleton, according to the Union Leader.

The Wallace Horse Cemetery holds the remains of Maude, Mollie and Maggie – familiar buggy horses around town in the late 1800's, according to Littleton history. When Interstate 93 was being constructed in the 1970's, its course was altered slightly so as not to disturb the horse cemetery.

The remains recovered will be sent to the state medical examiner's office for further examination by a forensic anthropologist.
