Saratoga: Exercise Rider in Critical Condition after Spill

by | 08.27.2013 | 4:05pm

Exercise rider Raymond Bulgado remained in critical condition at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday, one day after suffering a fractured neck in a spill during training hours at Saratoga.

According to the Daily Racing Form, Bulgado, who is employed by trainer Nick Zito, did not sustain any severe head trauma as a result of the accident.

Bulgado was aboard the 3-year-old gelding, Ricochet Court, when the accident occurred. The gelding was working a half-mile in company on the Oklahoma turf course. Nearing the quarter pole, Ricochet Court suffered fractures of both forelegs and fell, hurling Bulgado to the turf.

Bulgado was taken to Saratoga Hospital, then later airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

Godspeed to you, Ray, – stay strong and have a speedy recovery! And my sympathies go out to the horse’s connections. Being an ex-exercise rider, I am familiar with the risks involved for all. My prayers are with you,

My heart breaks for Mr. Bulgado and his family…I will keep them in my prayers. And poor Ricochet Court……what a horrible accident…I hope he did not suffer too long.

My horses name is Ricochet (pic age 25) so I loved it when Ricochet Court was listed and am sad by this and hope the rider heals well.

Hope Mr Bulgado has a speedy and complete recovery. RIP Ricochet Court.
