Spend more than a few minutes around Santa Anita's popular Horn Blower, Jay Cohen, and you're as likely to hear a corny joke or witness a magic trick as you are to hear a call to the post—any one of which will leave you and your family smiling. The multi-talented Cohen, who doubles and triples as a professional magician, comic and world class musician, will host Santa Anita's first-ever “That's a Stretch” comedy show in the track's legendary Chandelier Room this Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The show will feature a collection of dynamic young comedians, with Cohen “stirring the comedic pot” throughout the evening.
“Look, everybody's looking for a laugh, right?” said Cohen between races on Sunday. “The Chandelier Room is a terrific venue and I know everybody will enjoy it. If you skip a good laugh on a day, that day is ruined. Even when everything goes wrong, we need to find some humor in it. I know I do and it's saved my life.”
Attendees will be entertained throughout the two-hour performance by Cohen and comedians Mary Gallagher, Eddie Pence and Jamie Kaler.
A stand-up comedian, writer and actor, Gallagher had her national stand-up television debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in 2018 and she's also appeared on Amazon Prime's “Laugh After Dark,” as well as a hidden camera horror show from “Stanger Things,” entitled “Prank Encounters.”
“That's a Stretch” will also showcase comedian Eddie Pence, who was named by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the top faces of the Montreal Comedy Festival. A finalist in 2010's Seattle International Comedy Competition, Pence's credits include “The Late Show with David Ferguson,” “Gotham Live” and “Comics Unleashed.” Pence can also be heard on two daily podcasts, “The Ralph Report” and “Swings and Mrs.”
Attendees will also be treated to the comedic talents of Jamie Kaler. An accomplished actor, comic, host, voice-over artist and podcaster, Kaler is the founder of “Dadlands” and is best known for his starring role as Mike on the hit TBS show, “My Boys.” His prolific career also includes appearances on “Friends,” “Will and Grace,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Parenthood,” “King of Queens,” “The Middle,” “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “NCIS,” as well as numerous films and commercials.
To purchase tickets for the “That's a Stretch” comedy show this Saturday at 6 p.m., please visit santaanita.com/events, or call (626) 574-RACE. Attendees must be 21 years of age. The first in a monthly series, the next “That's a Stretch” event will be Saturday, March 21.
