Jockey Rafael Bejarano's agent said the rider suffered a broken left wrist in Sunday's final race at Santa Anita and will probably miss about a month of action, reports the Daily Racing Form.
“Rafael most likely fell onto an outstretch arm and suffered a radius fracture,” agent Tora Yamaguchi told DRF.
The jockey was thrown from 3-year-old filly Boom Boom Bango, who broke down on the backstretch while making her first career start. She reportedly broke both front legs and was euthanized. Boom Boom Bango was bred in California and owned by Steve and Melinda Duffield. Her trainer was Mike Puype.
