Todd Pletcher will be moving the 19 horses he had in training at Belmont Park, the trainer told drf.com on Tuesday. With NYRA racing cancelled for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing worldwide coronavirus pandemic, Pletcher made the decision to shut down his New York operation.
“For the safety of our employees and to make sure horses are getting the proper care, we've decided to temporarily shut down our barn until this thing is over,” Pletcher told drf.com.
Several of the Belmont-based runners will join Pletcher's string at Palm Beach Downs in Florida or go to his father's farm in Ocala, while others will be shipped out to owners' farms in New York or Kentucky. Other horses Pletcher trained for owner Mike Repole will remain at Belmont with Rudy Rodriguez.
