Dual Oaks winner Enable was confirmed Wednesday morning as a runner in this weekend's Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes by trainer John Gosden, and it gives jockey Frankie Dettori even more incentive to 'lose a few pounds'.
The 3-year-old Enable will be facing both her elders and males for the first time in her career in the King George, which will be run on Saturday at Ascot. She has been assigned to carry 8st 7lbs, which is the equivalent of 119 pounds (1 st(stone) = 14 pounds).
According to the Racing Post, Dettori only occasionally rides at that weight, but he has vowed not to ride overweight.
“It's hard work but I had plenty of notice,” Dettori told the Post. “I am doing well and I will do it. I do it when it needs to be done. I have been on water and white fish for the last few days and I am on course to do it.”
“I am not doing overweight. I wouldn't take the ride if I was going to do overweight. It's too important. You need every ounce you can get.”
