Retired jockey Rosie Napravnik made a Christmas Day announcement that she and her husband, trainer Joe Sharp, as expecting their second child, putting any talk of a possible comeback on the back burner – at least for now.
“For those who are wondering about my comeback…” the 27-year-old Napravnik said on Twitter, alongside two photos showing the couple's son, Carson Wayne Sharp, wearing a shirt bearing the following message: “Santa told me a secret….I'm going to be a big brother…August 2016.”
Napravnik announced her first pregnancy and her retirement on the NBC Sports telecast of the 2014 Breeders' Cup after scoring one of the biggest victories of her career aboard Winchell Thoroughbreds Untapable in the Grade 1 Distaff.
That victory was her 1,877th career win from 9,715 mounts over a 10-year career that saw her win riding titles at Laurel, Pimlico, Delaware Park and three consecutive years at Fair Grounds in New Orleans, where she now lives.
She has stayed active, assisting her husband in his second year as a trainer. Thus far in 2015, he's won 98 races from 537 starts for earnings of $3,568,230. Napravnik has also ridden in horse shows featuring off-track Thoroughbreds.
